Looking for employment opportunities or new jobs in Australia online? You are not alone! In fact, you have joined the new breed of job seekers who preferred to search jobs on the web.
Why search for jobs in Australia online?
According to Australia’s major corporate and small scale business employers, online recruitment, employment and job board industry is a more convenient, efficient, time and cost saving recruitment method.
Through online job boards, they are not weighed by the usual hassles of the conventional employment method. Their human resource department can concentrate on interviewing and hiring rather than go through the usual process of scanning resume’s which eats more than half of their time of which they can better use on more important tasks.

Thousands of health professionals come to Australia each year looking for a new start, sun, sand, and the surf. Some even master surfing - but more learn how to fall from a surfboard! The sheer danger of some of the parts of our country is tempered by the absolute beauty and impressiveness of the natural features and very unique animals of Australia.
In Australia, we are exceptionally outgoing, confident, and always happy. Our personality, and the tendency to light-heartedly make fun of others sometimes bewilders, or shocks international visitors.
This article is the start of a series relating to how to start working in Australia as a health professional, and what you can do to get here - and have a successful career.
I have helped thousands of health professionals find work in Australia, and my company Beat Medical focusses on employment for doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, psychologists, senior nurses, and health managers. This article relates specifically to doctors.
The focus of this article is about what types of jobs are available in Australia, and what type of working conditions you can generally expect.
About the Australian Health System
The health system in Australia is largely a government funded, public healthcare system. It is of a very high standard, but is supplemented in part by a private healthcare system (funded by private paying patients, and health insurance companies).
It is not mandatory to have health insurance in Australia, as all citizens, and permanent residents are covered by the Medicare (www.medicare.gov.au) system - which is a federally funded system available to everyone. Healthcare is administered by the individual states around Australia through Public Hospitals. Visitors Australia from the UK, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Malta, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, and Italy are entitled to a limited amount of free healthcare in Australia.
Many Australians choose to take out private health insurance to supplement what the public system provides. This usually enables an individual to have their choice of doctor, and to stay in a private facility.
Most employment as a doctor in Australia is in a public hospital. There are different terms used in each region, but essentially there are four levels of doctor.
Interns are undergoing a supervised training year.
Residents are fully registered doctors, working in a general rotational position in a hospital.
Registrars are taking part in a speciality training program (equivalent to a resident in the USA).
Consultants are qualified specialists.
You would most likely be considering a position in one of the last three categories.
Medical Registration in Australia
The Australian Medical Council (http://www.amc.org.au/index.php/img) oversees the entry of international medical graduates into the Australian system. They have a very comprehensive and informative website, which you should review for information on how to become registered in Australia.
The Competent Authority model is one of the most straightforward ways to become registered in Australia. If your primary medical training was undertaken any of these countries, you are generally not required to complete any examinations to start work in Australia:?
United States of America
United Kingdom
Canada
New Zealand
Ireland
The standard pathway requires that you complete a multiple choice, and sometimes a clinical examination before commencing work in an Australian state.
The specialist pathway is for doctors who are trained as a medical specialist in their home country. This pathway is also dependent on the relevant medical training college in Australia - as they will be the body responsible for assessing your qualifications and experience before recommending you to be registered in Australia.
As medical registration is a state based matter, the rules vary from state to state.
When you apply for a position in Australia, the recruitment company or hospital you are dealing with will generally assist you through the registration process.
Working Visas
Australia has very strict immigration policies, which are governed by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Depending on your country of origin, there are a number of visas that may be appropriate for you. The most common method of entry, though, is the 457 Temporary Business (Long Stay) Visa (http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/sbs/). This visa requires sponsorship from an employer, and quite a detailed process for entry. It is relatively straightforward, though, and most can be managed online.
Working conditions
In Australia, the general working hours a 38-40 hours per week (0800-1700). As you can imagine, however, the working hours for a doctor are significantly different from the norm.
It is quite variable, but you can expect to work an additional 20 hours or so per week in overtime (which is generally paid at a higher rate). Those working in shift-work (for example in Emergency or Intensive Care) will work four or five twelve hour shifts per week, as well as some overtime.
The pay is quite variable, as it is state-based. However, the salaries in Australia are quite significant in comparison to many other countries. They are generally considered appropriate in relation to the cost of living in Australia.
In broad terms, as a resident you can expect to earn a base (before overtime) salary of between $60-70k per annum. As a registrar, $75-90k per annum, and a consultant $150k + per annum. These figures are open to significant variation, and simply provide a guide.
In Australia, employers are legally required to contribute at least 9% of your salary towards a superannuation (retirement) fund. You have complete control over how this fund is managed. You may be able to claim all of this money back if you depart Australia. Otherwise, it cannot be accessed until you are retirement age.
Taxation in Australia is relatively high, as we have a very high level of social services funded by the government. Go to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website for more information. You would generally be considered resident for taxation purposes if you are here for an extended period.
How to find a position
You can find a position through many of the job websites such as www.seek.com.au,
www.careerone.com.au, or www.mycareer.com.au. You can also access the individual health department websites, which all have job search engines.
There are a number of recruitment agencies in Australia who can assist you with the process of finding a position, and dealing with medical registration, working visas, relocation, and contract negotiation. Not all companies are the same, or offer the same level of service and quality. You should never pay a recruitment company in Australia (they should charge the employer).
We can be contacted at any time on +61 2 8014 0175, via recruit@beatmedical.com.au, through skype (user name: beat medical), our our website www.beatmedical.com.au.
We offer a no-obligation consultation, and will work with you to access the ‘hidden’, unadvertised employment market - which is often where the best jobs are found.

How to write a stand out resume (the Australian way!). Yes, there is an Australian way to write a resume (C.V). It may mean the difference between an interview - or no interview.

There are two major types of employee-sponsored visas: temporary and permanent. This article discusses the three ways to attain a permanent visa for skilled labourers.
Unlike its temporary counterpart, the permanent visa offers holders a number of benefits. Permanent visa holders and their dependents may study in an Australian school or university, receive subsidized healthcare and sponsor people for permanent residence. After meeting eligibility criteria, the permanent visa holder can also become an Australian citizen. Visa holders can also access certain social security payments upon completion of the waiting period.
1. Employee Nomination Scheme – Subclass 121/856 allows Australian employers to sponsor foreign nationals for a permanent visa to work in Australia. It works for both overseas works and those who are skilled temporary residents. One qualification for this visa type is that it requires the employee to be highly skilled.
2. Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme – Subclass 119/857 lets employers from regional Australia sponsor skilled workers for positions that they are unable to fill from the local labour market.
3. Labour Agreements – Subclass 120 and 855, this formal agreement that allows companies to recruit a number of overseas skilled workers. There are several situations where this type of arrangement can be beneficial to the employer.
The amount of time the sponsored employee must render services to the sponsoring employer varies according to the type of visa. While permanent visas may take some time to prepare and approve, it does offer considerable benefits that allow a person holding such to truly enjoy work in Australia.

It's also important that people wanting to enter the industry have relevant experience in the area they want to enter in the Australia Mining industry. The market is getting very competitive with some companies getting over 500 applicants or more for one position. Especially with the amount of media that the mining industry is receiving on current affair programs in Australia and New Zealand regarding all the money to be made in the industry. It's making it a lot harder finding position, especially unskilled mining jobs and also finding companies that will take on people with no previous mining experience. It's not as easy as it used to be in entering the mines. More work is being mechanically assisted therefore skilled people are required rather than the old days in the industry when a lot of unskilled positions were available.
Also certain skills and trades are in more demand than others. Mothers and Fathers reading this should take some notes and direct your kid in the right directions when they are planning to leave school and enter the work force or university study. If your kid is not interested in university study and wants to leave school get them into a training scheme with a company that will give them a trade after a few years that will in return earn them over 100,000 a year and only working two thirds of the year in the mining industry in Australia. Also university study can be planned and the end result will be more rewarding. Students with a Mining Engineering Degree's are getting snapped up quicker than they are being graduated. There is an 18% vacancy rate in this area and top students are getting sign on agreements of up to 10,000 dollars like sporting super stars with some of the large mining companies in Australia as well as a 100,000 starting off salary.
Getting back to relevant experience; Mining companies want to hire people that have done the particular job back in the cities and are passionate about their job. Its costs a lot hiring a person, and putting the person through the inductions fully paid and then ongoing training, the last thing they want is the person to quit their job after a few weeks.
A lot of people tell me they have an HR and want to drive trucks? But they don't have any experience driving trucks in the city let alone on a mine site. Agencies won't even look at your application if you don't have mining experience of 2-3 years. A lot of their positions are fly in fly out and are filling a vacancy that is important for production to run properly. If production is not running efficiently, it's going to costs the company money. A lot of the big companies don't have time to train people on the job site any more. This is the same with people wanting to enter the industry as a cleaner on a mining camp. The hiring companies want people are experience in this field as its costs them a lot to train people and put them through inductions. If people have several years experience in this field, it shows the company they are passionate about this job as they want people that are going to stay with them for a long time and are not just using a cleaning job in a mining camp to gain a dump truck job. This is a big NO for the hiring cleaning companies in the mining industry and they have tough interview procedures to stop people entering the cleaning industry with the intention of fining a dump truck job.
The way the mines are going you want 2 -3 years experience in a field in your civilian career. If you want a particular job in the mines its best to start now where you live and get some experience. Even if it means driving buses, it's still related to driving trucks. Bus drivers make good dump truck drivers as they have to be safety conscious during the day which skill is wanted for dump truck drivers to have. This is the same for people that tell me they have driven a digger a few times in the past and planned to get a job driving a digger on a mine site. Hope you have good patience as if this is the only experience you have your going to be waiting for a while. Those diggers on the mine sites are a lot bigger 150 - 700 tonnes. These positions driving dump trucks and diggers are paid well and the employees climbing the company ladder will be getting these positions before you.
It may be easier to find a job with a small sub contractor company that has work on a mine site. They may not pay as much as the big mining companies but they are more likely to hire a person in your situation and this way you get that valuable mining experience.
A lot of the time is who you know in the mining industry, if you met the right people and make a good connection with them. It's easy to find a job any field you like.
There are three job fields in the mining industry in Australia:
University educated mining jobs. Geologists, mine managers etc. Jobs that require university study as important part of the position.
Skilled Worked. Mechanics, wielders, Boiler makers, Drillers, Often requiring a trade or specific training.
Ticket required Jobs. Loader driving jobs, Truck driving, Road trains and dump trucks. Jobs often requiring tickets to show you're skilled in driving particular machinery or vehicles.
It sometimes turns into a cache 22 situation. The companies only want to hire experience people but how do you get that experience if they don't take new comers to the industry on. Answer; 1) Use your friends if you have any that are working in the mines. 2) Some companies run programs in participation with training institutions in the cities where if selected after a 1hour interview you can do one of there courses and then they help you get a job. These organizations can charge up to 4000 dollars and some applicants have waited 4 months for a position. This is very common for the people entering the industry wanting to drive dump trucks. 3) The last option is to take up another position in the mines which provides easy and quick access to get that "mining experience" that companies want. It may not be a position that you want to do for the rest of your life, but it's a position that pays wells and will open the world to the lucrative mining industry.
It can be tough finding out want positions that are the easiest ways to enter the mining industry in Western Australia. They are not well published and it's up to who you know in the mining industry that can fill you with information regarding positions that are a good way to get into the industry.

Australia isn't a country you would typically associate with leading edge engineering skills and technical innovation. Australia, however, is full of surprises and in fact boasts many firsts. These include the mechanical refrigerator, the black-box-flight recorder, the bionic ear (cochlear implant), the pace maker, the electric drill, and the combine harvester. In fact Australia's output of inventive genius is far beyond what you would expect - given that the population size barely exceeds 20 million people (source: Australian Bureau of Statistics).
The demand for engineers
As a place to work, Australia must be amongst the most exciting for an engineer - no matter the discipline. The booming economy has a strong technology focus, and vast amounts are invested in research and development. However, there is a shortage of engineers which limits what firms are able to do. According to the engineering body "Engineers Australia" the current vacancy rate is estimated at 20%. The demand for engineers applies to a wide range of engineering disciplines including: Mining engineers, electrical engineers, civil engineers, chemical engineers and mechanical engineers. These are on the "Migration Occupations in Demand List" (MODL) and are therefore amongst the most sought after professions in Australia.
High levels of remuneration
Engineering salaries are very competitive. For instance, entry level mining engineers earn annual salaries ranging from A$95,000 to A$105,000, while management level engineers' earnings range from approximately A$175,000 to A$210,000.
The door is wide open
Australia utilises a points system to determine whether a visa is issued. Given the shortages, engineers are viewed in a favourable light when applying for a visa. Engineers holding qualifications of the type listed on the MODL list, earn between 15 to 20 points (depending on whether or not the applicant has a job offer).
A fairly new Visa, labelled the 457 Visa is one of the best options for obtaining temporary residence in Australia. The visa is sponsored in part by your employer. The employer covers your return trip costs as well as your medical expenses. The 457 Visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to four years. In addition your spouse, partner and/or children may accompany you on this Visa. After 24 months you are permitted to apply for citizenship should you so desire.
The 457 Visa affords you most of the rights (and duties) of an ordinary Australian citizen, including access to an excellent healthcare system. Rights which do not apply include the right to vote and jury duty.
At present Australia is a land of opportunity for those with the right skills, an opportunity which should not be missed! Australia offers the ideal lifestyle. A pleasant climate, wide-open spaces, and beautiful coastlines enhance life quality. Those who enjoy the outdoors are sure to feel right at home. The infrastructure is first class, crime rates are low and the education system is amongst the best in the world.

Immigration can be the answer to curbing Australian state, Victoria's rise in housing prices because of labour shortages in commercial and residential
The Master Builders Association of Victoria (MBA) believes that to keep pace with the industry's growth, the state needs 40,000 more skilled workers within the next five years.
Because of an acute lack of skilled workers, Victoria's construction activity is being threatened, and, according to a survey of commercial builders by the peak body, recruiting a skilled workforce was the biggest issue preventing the sector from reaching its potential.
Executive MBA director Brian Welch said that this survey highlighted the need for Victoria not only to retain its skilled professionals but also to attract new workers.
Other key findings of the survey showed that 46% of those polled said that it was very difficult to recruit highly skilled workers such as site and project managers. Also, more than half said the greatest difficulty was found in recruiting shop draftsmen.
Mr Welch also said that things are about to worsen if Immigration Australia can't help: "With an ageing workforce and many of our senior building professionals close to retirement age, the situation is expected to worsen".
The problem, Welch explained, was that forcing up the costs for builders, would feed into property prices for consumers.
He warned that the fewer trade contractors there are to do work; the higher house prices will rise as shortages become imminent. Also, he added that we are under-building as it stands and there are a lot of people over the next five years who will retire from the building industry.
Over the past few years, housing affordability in Australia has worsened, with home owners and renters spending more of their income on mortgage or rent payments. Hopefully, Immigration Australia can bring in more skilled workers from overseas to remedy this problem.
Mr Welch said to address the skills shortage, the State Government should introduce several measures, including retraining skilled workers at retirement age so their skills and experience can be kept as 'registered trainers'.

If you wish to seek jobs in Au, from abroad, you will need to take care to read about an understand Australian Immigration policy. There is a clear quota and the number of those wishing to enter is far greater than the allowed influx.
However, if you seek jobs Au from within the country you will be looking for employment in your existing homeland and this will not be likely to apply.
Despite the enormous size and low population of Australia by international norms, the nations is still largely an urban nation. The jobs available in Australia and the mix of jobs is therefore similar to all other developed nations.
If you do seek jobs au, but in the outback, then the job mix available is quite different. The population is so low that the number of “jobs in the empty Australia regions” is also quite small.
Jobs will as they do all around the world, reflect the main economic activity within the area, so there are many and widely dispersed jobs in cattle ranching, and farming in the areas wet enough to support agriculture. For those that enjoy the wild and tough life of cattle, and not seeing anyone for days on end, they will find employment incomparable in the world. Search on and we wish you every success.
The other big employer of the empty Australian outback are those uniquely seek jobs au available for miners, and engineers, for all those who seek adventure and wealth in the minerals industry. Some of the mines are as remote as can be found anywhere in the world. Expect to get to know your fellow employees very well as there will be little scope for much other socializing!
If you seek jobs au though you will find that pay is usually good and the employers are reasonable to work for. Australia has a national minimum wage rule as well, so you will be protected from a level of exploitation.
If you seek jobs in au in the theater the scene is active and growing, but small. For example, Australia\'s Amanda Stewart has been invited to curate an international sound-poetry program this year, following her runaway success at last year\'s "Worlds of Sound".
Australia’s theatre scene is also scattered across a wide terrain, mirroring the size and distribution of its population. A shift in any of the major features of this landscape has the potential to change the local and national ecology of performance and, by extension, the shape and scope of Australia’s presence on the international stage. However, for those that do seek a short time Australian drama job and traveling experience would find this possible seek obs au opportunity as ideal to get to see the country.
The dance scene for job seekers (seek jobs au) in Australian work is increasingly registering at major international dance screen events. With very few independent dance artists being presented overseas, film or video work is a way of having a presence on the international scene. Australian work is currently under way to develop indicators that include such information, but the current study preceded this. Thirdly, the level of access might have been influenced by the total amount of funding available to the project.

Cape Town - South Africa-born Allan Moss, who heads up Macquarie Bank - is now Australia's highest paid CEO, having earned more than A$33m (R195m) in 2007. Moss is widely credited with having turned Macquarie Bank from a minor player into an international powerhouse (www.moneyweek.com).
Such is the respect Moss has accrued over the years that he has acquired the title "Sage of Sydney", some labeling him an Australian Warren Buffet.
He is known for his humility and "bumbling professor" image, but underneath all this is a business genius who has managed to outwit many an international competitor (www.theage.com.au).
Another success story is South African born Gail Kelly, who has now become the most highly paid businesswomen in Australia and is ranked by Fortune magazine as one of the top 50 most powerful women in the world. She is also the first woman to head a top-ten listed Australian company.
Kelly immigrated to Australia in 1997 to join the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and worked her way through the ranks to the point where she will be taking over as CEO of Westpac Bank in February next year.
According to Oz-LifeStyle.com agency head, Mike Stowe, individuals such as Allan Moss and Gail Kelly represent the pinnacle of South African immigrant achievements, but they are not alone.
"In fact, the average 457 Visa skilled migrant's salary of A$70 000 (R413 000) indicates that the typical South African immigrant is likely to be an above average performer when it comes to earnings. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the average Australian salary is A$57 000."
Faced with growing skills shortages - combined with an unemployment rate of approximately four percent - Australian businesses have increasingly sought qualified South Africans. Australia's robust economy, high GDP growth and low inflation and public debt, have meant that there are simply not enough Australians to fill job vacancies.
"South Africans are sought after by Australian firms because they possess a high standard of education along with a good work ethic, proficiency in English, and excellent industry or corporate training.
"Australian employees also know that South Africans adapt well to the Ozzie lifestyle and culture. Our warm climate, geographic beauty and diversity, suburbs, shopping centres, world class education and medical standards - are very similar." says Stowe.
Employment agencies throughout Australia offer countless job opportunities for South Africans, especially in "priority" fields.
"These 'priority' jobs are identified in Australia's immigration program. At present, there is an urgent need for people in IT (project and design programmers), retail (management and supervisors), the medical field, mining (engineers and surveyors), defence, industry (abattoir supervisors and workers, project and electrical engineers) and all trades." says Stowe.
The Australian Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC), announced earlier this year that people with trade skills were needed most, but also listed chartered accountants, medical professionals, welders and hairdressers as other skills that were in short supply.
The revamped "457 Visa", sponsored in part by prospective employers (who are responsible for return trip costs and medical expenses), allows employees and their families to stay in Australia on a temporary basis for four years. Permanent residence may be applied for after two years.

Ever wondered how to go about emigrating to Australia and go about getting an Australian visa? Wondering what the various options were and how to go about the different schemes without too much red tape or expense? There are lots of ways to emigrate to Australia.
This article spells it out in 9 easy stages.
1. The Australian economy has never been stronger and the Australian government are particularly looking out for skilled people with a specialization in many business and trade areas. In order to emigrate you could go the route of an expensive lawyer, or you could get the advice of specialist Australian immigration consultants to see if you qualify for Australian immigration eligibility.
2. If you are wondering about work skills needed to emigrate to Australia or qualifications needed to emigrate to Australia then it's worth bearing in mind that there is a points system for applying for what is known as the Skilled Visa. You can fill in an online form to see if you satisfy the Australian immigration points system as set out by the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMIA).
3. An Australia working visa. Managers, qualified professionals and skilled tradespeople are especially in demand under the Skilled Visa program. Schemes are available for skilled visas on a permanent or temporary basis, and are all based on points needed to emigrate to Australia as set out by the Australian Immigration Department. With the Australian job market advertising over 150,000 jobs each week and unemployment at its lowest in 10 years, being eligible for an Australia work visa has never been more possible. There is a huge demand in the plumbing, security, printing and the building trades in particular. However, despite the huge demand across the board there was a shortage of candidates for jobs in 2004.
4. An Australia working holiday visa. These are exactly what they sound like. There are many people who dream of being able to emigrate to Western Australia or, more specifically, emigrate to Perth Australia for the amazing weather and facilities there. If you are between 18 and 30 and are looking to spend 12 months in Australia then you may qualify for one of the many Australian working holiday visas that are available every year.
5. Family Visa. If you have an Australian partner, or members of your immediate family are permanently based in Australia then you may qualify for one of several family stream visas. Your application to emigrate to Australia can be done online. The Government of Australia encourages emigration in order to bring families together. Under the Family Visa Emigration Programme, migrants considering emigration must be sponsored by a close family member or fiancé(e) living in Australia. There are 4 schemes to choose from in order to find out if you are eligible for emigration. Select the one that best describes your situation. The sponsor must be either an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, and would usually be 18 years of age or older.
6. Visitors and tourists. All travelers, except New Zealand citizens, must obtain a visa or travel authority before they travel to Australia. But now there is no need to worry about visiting the Australian Embassy or High Commission to get your visa. You can now get your visa online. If you are planning to travel to Australia as a visitor or even on a business trip then you may need either a visa or an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority). An ETA will allow you to spend up to 3 months in Australia and you are free to travel anywhere you like.
7. Business and investment visas. If you have had a successful business career either at a senior executive level or as an owner of your own business you may qualify for one of several visas under the Australian business visa program. Under the two-stage arrangements introduced on 1 March 2003, business migrants are granted a Business Skills (Provisional) visa for four years and, after establishing the requisite level of business presence required by the DIMIA or maintaining their minimum investment, are eligible to make an application for a Business Skills (Residence) visa.
8. If you are an employee who is headhunted or moved to your company's Australia office then you can apply under the Australia sponsored work visa. Your employer can effectively sponsor you for this by becoming your Australia Immigration Sponsor. Under this system, if you are an established professional, you can emigrate to Australia without a degree.
9. Retirement visas. If you wish to emigrate to Australia on retirement then you may be eligible for an Australia retirement visa given each year. If you are financially secure and would like to spend some of your retirement years in the warmer climates of Australia, find out if you qualify with our free online assessment.
There has never been a better time to emigrate to Australia or to apply for an Australia Work Permit or Australia visa application.

Also actors and models may find themselves in any number of places depending on how famous or desirable they are. There are other types of more practical skills too that are very specialized like nuclear scientists. Companies cast a wide net when recruiting because there are so few people in the field that are qualified.
Some people though can do their jobs from anywhere. The reason they are moving to Australia may just be to have fun. Australia is a great place for recreation. Many people love to surf and do other types of beach and ocean activities. Australia has some of the best surfing waters. People come from all over the world to experience them. They also have the coral reefs to explore and dive in. There are also people who like to water ski and do boating and fishing. All of these activities are done uniquely in Australia because of its beautiful waters. There are other types of environments to have fun in. There are fun activities to do in the deserts. Some people really enjoy driving and sand surfing in dunes. There are also forests to hike through.

Sitting in my room and watching 60 Minutes with the lead story on the booming times in the mines of Western Australia you realize you are part of something big. The text messages fly round the boys to make sure we are all watching a story on our industry that we are all part of. An industry that none of us thought we would ever be involved in if you rewind the clock back fours years to our university days. An industry that according to 60 Minutes in a $1000 a second industry and is going through "the best times there have ever been". We watch the story and see the drill rigs that we work on, the monster Cat DUMP trucks that still astound us with their size every time we see them, the 'local' we drink in and we realize it is a good time to be a young kiwi working in the mines of West Australia that are struggling to keep up with the demand of a booming China.
I am one of literally thousands of Kiwis currently based in or around Kalgoorlie, 700km east of Perth in Goldfields of Western Australia. I have now been here 3 and 1/2 months into what was originally going to be a 100 day challenge I had set myself. I was based in Wellington and was becoming frustrated with the lack of job opportunities and the amount of money I'd been offered. I had been introduced to the idea of working out here by a friend from school who along with four of his university friends had spent 6 months here last year. They were coming back and I decided this was the way to get some quick money together to begin my OE. The general consensus back home is that you need $10,000 to begin your OE so if you can save $200 a week this would take a year. I had been told that you can save that amount in 3 months here, so I thought why not. A couple of other friends based in Sydney had also decided to make the leap of faith and this further helped ease my fears. I quit my job, booked a flight and packed my bags with blind optimism that it would all work out. Having never really done a hard days labour in my life and not too many practical skills behind me I knew I was in for a testing time but I figured that if my Grandfather can go to war for 5 years as a young man, I can manage 100 days in the mines.
Arriving in Kambalda, 50km south of Kalgoorlie everthing went like clockwork. I arrived late on a Sunday night, went down to the yard on a Monday morning to apply for a job, had a medical and signed a million forms that afternoon, completed the necessary mine site inductions on Tuesday and Wednesday and was out working on a drill rig on the Thursday. How life had changed so dramatically in the space of a week. By easter break 3 weeks later I had had just one day off and completed a 78 hour week in the process. I had hardly had time to take it all in. I was lucky in the fact that when I started there was 5 mates already here and within a month that number had swelled to 13. So here we were 13 guys from NZ all connected through each other through school or university working for the same exploration company, staying at the same camp and all working long, hard hours.
Everyone has their own reason to be here but the underlying fact is that money talks and we are in place we saving money is easily done. We are saving between $900 and $1300 a week as all food and accommodation is paid for by our company at the cost of $70 a night per head.
My friend is helping fellow kiwis and Aussies into the industry please contact him for more information regarding unskilled, no experience needed mining jobs or entry level mining jobs in Australia at his site http://www.getajobinthemines.co.nz

The coolest thing about having a writers job is that you can work where ever you want, most writers get paid writing from the comfort of their own homes. How good is that! One of the perks of becoming a professional writer I guess. There are many writers looking for work in Australia, Melbourne (must be something in the water!) The following is some advice for writers generally and some ideas about where to get work.
To become a professional, the first priority is to get paid. Anyone can write really, there is nothing special about us writers, but the difference between a hobbyist and a professional is that the professional gets paid. So ideally, finding consumers of freshly written content takes up some of the writers time, because once you have a few good clients, they can happily feed you work for years and even decades. Some of the biggest consumers of content are webmasters, because the web is completely dependant on content and in particular writing, (there are many different forms of content including software, audio/visual etc anything that is informative or entertaining is content) because if there was no content on the web, if there was nothing but ads, the world wide web would not be particularly interesting.
So, webmasters have a vested interest to buy fresh content on a regular basis to find an audience on any particular topic. That is where you come in. Who do you think writes all those billions of informative pages on the web? The web fairy? Content is detailed and time consuming work from a webmasters perspective because administering a website is a big enough job as it is, that is why they actively buy content on a daily basis. It is the first place a writer should look to make money writing.
Imagine quitting your day job in just 3 days, you can, you know, you can write articles for a living just like me and thousands of others do. Discover how to get paid $90 dollars per hour or even more doing simple, short articles. Genuine work from home opportunity, replace your day job income working only 3 hours a day - click the link below.

The best aspect of the Australia mining jobs is that people from all backgrounds and working professions can find a position suited to them. Typically, available mine job positions are best suited to those that like to challenge themselves physically. While there are still are number of positions suited to people who prefer hard labouring work, the industry also requires workers to fill positions in a number of areas and capacities.
Working conditions in the mining industry have improved greatly with a big emphasis on safety these days. You may need to undertake safety training before you work in the mining environment. This is due the physically challenging working conditions you will find yourself in, not to mention the 12 hour shifts.
An attractive aspect of the Australian mining industry is the rosters that are available. There are a number of different rosters available, depending on the company you work for. Some mining jobs rosters range from 3 weeks on and 1 week off to 9 days on and 5 days on.
Another great aspect of the Australia mining industry is the ability to secure a fly In, fly out (FIFO) position. As many mines are located in remote areas, mining companies will cover the costs for you to fly to the mine site during your rostered work period. Your employer will cover and provide all of your accommodation, food and laundry needs. FIFO positions also gives you the opportunity to save a lot of money. You employer will also generally cover the cost to fly you back home during your rostered time off.
Accommodation in the mining camps ensures that all of the workers are comfortable. Living quarters provided at camp sites range from 2 by 4 metre portable homes to permanent 6 by 8 metre rooms with ensuites. Fridges, single beds, television, electricity and water are also provided with rooms.
One of the most popular Australia mining jobs that people look to gain is that of a Dump Truck driver. Why is a Dump Truck position a great position to gain in the mining industry? - because of the income you can earn! You can expect to earn up to $100,000 in some states. Dump truck drivers come from all sorts of backgrounds and there are no age or gender restrictions. This position does require you to be in good physical shape and be able to pass a medical, to ensure you can safely operate these large trucks.
A common question from people who want to work in the mining industry is "are there entry level jobs for someone with no experience?". The answer to this is 'Yes!' For example, entry-level jobs include sample preparers, drillers assistants and labouring positions. These are available for people willing to work hard in return for a good income. In fact, the mining industry is looking for people from all backgrounds. Employers need to fill a number of Australia mining jobs from labourers, truck drivers, catering and cleaning staff to tradespeople, engineers and even office staff.
A concern for a number of people who would like obtain mining jobs is that they may be required to move to another state. Contrary to popular opinion, there are jobs the mining industry all across Australia, in all states. Also, for many people that are interested in making the change to an industry that offers them a great career and lifestyle opportunity, they will often question if they may be too old. Gaining employment is based more on your physical ability. As long as you are fit and capable of putting in a hard days work this is much more important than an arbitrary age limit.
Though the Australian mining industry is often portrayed as a male dominated industry, there are many career options for women in the industry. In fact, women are being hired not only on the basis that they are able to perform the job well but they have great safety records and work ethics. Gaining employment in the mining industry has become a great career option for couples as well.
If you are serious about wanting to work in the mining industry, there is a lot to know before you starting applying for mining jobs. Don't ruin your chances in the industry by applying for the wrong mine job, or the right jobs in the wrong places - as this can damage your future employment prospects.
