Today there are more choices available to nurses than ever before particularly in terms of where and when to work. There is and will continue to be for some time to come a worldwide shortage of Nurses. This has come about through a number of factors these include, improvements in medical technology, procedures and medication that have all contributed to the growth of the healthcare sector and more importantly life expectancy of the general population. In tern this has created an increased demand for aged care services too, further increasing the shortage of Nurses. This has meant that there is no shortage of work for qualified Nurses and nursing jobs in many areas are plentiful.

As in all parts of the world nursing jobs in Australia are always in demand. The Australian government has made it relatively easy to get a work visa for nurses as long as their training and work experience meets specific criteria. After the USA and UK, Australia is one of the best countries to look for a nursing career. When you search online for nursing jobs in Australia, you will find a large number of recruitment agencies providing facilities and options regarding job opportunities. Before thinking or applying for nursing jobs in Australia, it is mandatory for nurses to register with the national registration body AHPRA.

Australia is a relatively welcoming country for nurses who wish to migrate however they need to have their qualification assessed before applying. There are many countries whose healthcare systems are similar to that of Australia and fewer checks are required. In some circumstances your documents may are needed to be sent to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs for migration for assessment by the Australian Nursing Council Incorporated. Currently nursing jobs in Australia are in high demand and visa applications for this category receive priority processing. Nurses need to be in good health and are required to pass a health examination.

The salary rates of nurses increases with years of experience. Nursing is an almost unlimited field with a large number of categories to choose from. Many Nurses Choose to work on a fulltime, part time or Casual bases given good flexibility to start and top work and or to make childcare arrangements. Broadly the nursing profession is categorised as A&E, Critical Care, Midwifery, Aged Care, Community, Maternal & Child Health, Education, General Medical Surgical, Management, Oncology, Paedicatric. Psych, Forensic & Correctional health, Theatre & Recovery and Occupational Health and many more.

English is the language of communication in health care in Australia. It is therefore essential that nurses can speak English fluently. From July, 2009 it is mandatory for all internationally qualified nurses and midwives to provide proof of English language proficiency. English language tests acceptable in Australia are IELTS and OET (Occupational English Test).

Nursing in Australia has two levels

Registered Nurses or Reg Nurse Div 1: They are university graduates with a degree level courses generally a Bachelor of Nursing.

Enrolled Nurses or Reg Nurse Div 2: They hold a certificate or diploma through a colleges of technical education.

Australia has five states and two territories that unify under one national regulatory health practitioners body AHPRA (except WA which has its own, but is expected to join soon). Nurses who wish to work in Australia must be an enrolled or registered with the Australian Health practitioners Agency AHPRA (except WA).

What is a temporary resident visa?
This visa allows organisations to employ overseas workers to fill nominated skilled positions. The mining and IT industries hire the bulk of sponsored employees that move to Australia. You are allowed to live in work in Australia from one day up to four years.

Can anyone apply to be a temporary resident?
An employer can only sponsor a temporary resident if the job meets particular criteria:

Full time

A minimum period of 1 day to up to 4 years

Meet the minimum wage criteria (varies depending on the industry)

Be for an occupation which is recognised to be in short supply in Australia.

The person who is applying to be a temporary resident must be:

Accepted by an employer & be sponsored by them on a 457 Visa.

Must have the required skills and training to complete the job they have been hired for.

Must meet particular health checks, English skills tests & character checks.

How can I get granted my visa?
The first step is to find an employer willing to sponsor you to work in Australia. This is easy to do if you are in the mining or IT industries, however may be harder if you are in an industry that is not in high demand.

Once you have found a job with an employer, you will need to sign their employment contract and submit this to the department of immigration with a copy of your resume and a description of the job you will be completing.
You may need to provide other supporting docs after the initial assessment.

Typically these include a medical, criminal history check and other documents as required.

Working conditions
It is a condition of the 457 visa sponsorship that employees work on a full time basis. However aside from this there are few if any limitations on your working arrangements. You will be subject to normal benefits such as superannuation payments, holiday leave, sick leave and any other benefits included in your employment agreement.

If you extend your stay in Australia then you may be moved onto a bridging visa A or B while waiting for a new 457 visa to be issued.
If you change jobs during this time then your new employer will need to sponsor your visa.

Buying a home while in Australia
As a temporary resident you are allowed to purchase a home to live in, on the condition that you sell the home when you move back overseas. If you remain in Australia and apply for citizenship or permanent residency then you are allowed to keep your property indefinitely.

Not only is nursing one of the most rewarding and personally satisfying employment opportunities that is currently available, but with a continuing trend of nurse shortages to fill the ever growing list of vacancies, a career in nursing also offers the ability to work in a range of environments and within various specialisations. The worldwide demand for suitable applicants additionally opens up a whole world of opportunities for international travel, even permanent relocation to a distant but favoured land, such as Australia.

The South Pacific is no exception to these trends, with the number of positions available far exceeding the current stock of nurses available to fill those positions. For those who have been contemplating an overseas excursion, study trip or permanent relocation, Australia offers the perfect setting. Nursing jobs in Australia are abundant, with national, regional and local government initiatives being implemented to simplify the process of foreign worker entry. Due to the increased pressure on demand, the pay scale is also being positively affected, resulting in not only a rewarding career, but one that has many extrinsic benefits and motivations that increasing financial rewards create.

According to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Australia, due to the high demand for foreign workers to fill the available nursing jobs in Australia, the visa application is classed as high priority. This means that once the decision to move to, or visit Australia is made, the process of being accepted into the country through one of the various entry categories will be swift. There is a multitude of categories upon which you can enter Australia and gain wilful nursing employment. Along with the traditional sponsored employment, working holiday and student visa categories, Australia is implementing further initiatives to attract qualified personnel to high demand regions and health institutions.

The first involves a labour agreement between an employer and the Australian Government. This empowers the health institute or organisation to recruit foreign nurses on a permanent basis to fill the various vacancies as they arise. The second initiative is termed the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme, which allows district and regional health boards to more accurately and efficiently manage their own employment requirements. Under this legislative agreement, regional authorities are permitted to employ foreign workers on a permanent basis where they are unable to source individuals from the local region to fill those vacancies. However, under this scheme there is a requirement to have completed at least two years of full time medical and/or health study.

Whether you are looking for part time work as you travel through Australia, are an exchange student looking for practical work experience or require full time work due to relocation, the first step you should take is to contact a professional and experienced medical recruitment agency. Even though there are a mired of opportunities to secure nursing jobs in Australia, these organisations have established relationships with many of the medical boards and individual organisations, as well as experience in the immigration process. Reduce the stress and time involved in securing your employment today and consult with a professional recruitment agency.

There are many jobs available in Australia; some are part time jobs while others are of a more permanent nature. Tourists who come to look over our great land find many part time jobs in Melbourne and other capital cities. They don't mind what they do, so long as it will pay their way around Australia. Melbourne jobs can be anything from washing dishes and waiting on tables to working at a resort or even as a temp for some business.

If you are thinking of working your way around the country, there is no better way to see the wide open spaces and enjoy the cosmopolitan influences of the cities. Part time jobs in Sydney can encompass pretty well anything. You might like to get out of the main drag and find Sydney jobs such as picking grapes or fruit at an orchard. Or you could perhaps get a job in Sydney at a factory or even on a fishing boat.

Then it will be time to move on and find part time jobs in Brisbane, the Sunshine Capital of Australia. If you go there in the winter, you'll avoid the colder weather in the more southern cities. Jobs in Brisbane are not hard to find because of the tourist industry. You could wait at tables, clean rooms at motels or resorts or perhaps get a part time job in your trade if you have one.

Adelaide is called the garden city because of the many beautiful public gardens there. You may even score a job in Adelaide looking after them. If outdoors work does not appeal to you, look through the papers or go online to find a job. You can do the same to get a job in Perth when you are ready to up stakes and continue on with your trip. Once you've been to all of these lovely cities you will know a lot more about Australians and the land they live in.

If there is one economy around the world which has enjoyed the boom times over the last decade then it is the Australian economy which continues to go from strength to strength. The economy was one of the first to leave the worldwide recession and continues to attract overseas skilled workers to fill new positions which are becoming available on a regular basis.

Jobs in Australia

The Australian economy has been converted from one which was dependent on manufacturing sometime ago to one which is now based upon the services sector. Like so many developing economies around the world the services sector is the one which is the engine room of the Australian economy but there is more to the jobs market than just services. Australia has for many years been one of the major mining centres around the globe with massive natural resources which continue to service a significant part of the employment market in Australia.

Working conditions in Australia

While very often it is dangerous to assume like for like conditions when moving overseas there are great similarities between working conditions in Australia and working conditions in the UK. The average working week is around 37 hours, Monday to Friday, overtime payments for out of hours work and holiday and sick leave entitlement. The improvements in working conditions in Australia have been well-documented and are a natural progression for a country and economy which is developing.

The Australian workforce

To give you an idea of the split between the services industry and other industries in Australia, with over 11 million people available for work 75% are employed by the services industry and 21.1% by industry. The rate of unemployment in Australia increased from 4.2% in 2008 to 5.7% in 2009 although it is set to return to lower levels as the economy picks up after the worldwide recession.

A significant part of the Australian workforce is made up of overseas skilled workers who moved to the country over the years. It is unlikely we'll see the same number of overseas skilled workers moving to Australia in the short to medium term due to the fact the economy has now gone through the development stage and could now be described as developed.

Where to work in Australia

There are many different areas offering employment opportunities in Australia although the vast majority of expats are likely to go for one of the major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra and Adelaide. These areas are where the cost of living is highest in Australia but these are the areas where employment activity is focused.

Conclusion

While there are still many job opportunities in Australia the government is beginning to clamp down on the number of skilled workers moving from overseas. As the domestic Australian workforce develops and adopts new skills of its own we will likely see a further reduction in the number of skilled workers coming from overseas. However, there is no doubt that immigration has played a major part in the development of not only Australia as a whole but in particular the Australian economy.

Unemployment rates have started increasing and there are other signs of economic downturns in major economies of the world. International Labour Organization predicted that at least 20 million jobs will be lost by the end of 2009 bringing world unemployment level at above 200 million for the first time. The number of unemployed people may increase by more than 50 million in 2009 if the recession intensifies. Advanced economies like USA, Canada, Brazil, China, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Taiwan, Gulf, South Africa, Spain, Germany, France, UK, Sweden, Norway, Russia and Australia have all started feeling the effects of the recession.

Unemployment in Australia rose to its highest level in nearly four years in February 2009, showing the global downturn continues to bite despite big interest rate cuts and the government pumping billions of dollars into the economy.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics in March 2009 report declared that unemployment rose to 5.2 percent from 4.8 percent in January. Economists expected the jobless rate would rise to 5 percent. Total employment rose by just 1,800 to 10.8 million, but full-time employment decreased by 53,800. Part-time employment was up 55,600.

"These figures show that the global financial crisis and global recession is impacting on Australia and it's impacting on the jobs of Australians," Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard told reporters in Canberra. "The government's always said that we wouldn't be immune from the global financial crisis and the global recession which has wreaked so much havoc in economies around the world."

The global downturn that began to bite last year has brought about a swift reversal of fortunes for Australia's economy, which has enjoyed 17 consecutive years of growth fueled by voracious demand from China and elsewhere for its mineral exports.

Although Australia is not yet officially in a recession, figures released in March 09 indicate that it could be headed that way. Australia's economy shrank 0.5 percent in the last quarter of 2008 - the economy's first contraction in eight years.
Having said this, jobs for skilled labor are ever increasing in Australia. Unemployment level for skilled labor is at its lowest in Australia since a decade. Australian jobs are open to people belonging to any field of expertise including accounting & finance, arts, design and media, administration, computer software and hardware, telecommunication, customer service, engineering and medicine, travel, tourism and transportation, human resource management, legal and counsel, marketing and sales.

The Budget for 2008-09 has a provision of increase of 300,000 work visas to meet the shortfall in skilled jobs. Australian immigration department publishes 'Migration Occupation in Demand List' (MODL) which is updated twice in a year based on information received from various departments of Government of Australia. The list identifies occupation sectors in which a shortfall is identified in the market. The current list shows a shortfall in child care coordinators, engineering managers, accountants, anesthetists, architects, chemical engineers, civil engineers, computer professionals, dental specialists, dermatologists, electrical and electronics engineers, emergency medical specialists, external auditors, general medical practitioners, hospital pharmacists, mechanical engineers, radiographers, mining engineers, obstetricians, gynecologists, occupational therapists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, pathologists, petroleum engineers, physiotherapists, podiatrists, psychiatrists, quantity surveyors, radiologists, registered nurses and midwifes, retail pharmacists, specialists physicians, speech pathologists, surgeons, chefs, and many more occupations.

Apply For Jobs in Australia
Hundreds of Jobs are advertized daily on the internet and print media but it is impossible to apply for each and every of them although you may be eligible for most of them. The better way is to submit your CV to various CV pools which are searched daily by hundreds of recruiters everyday or submit your to the recruitment agencies which maintain there own CV pools and apply on the candidates behalf. Once an employer selects you for a job you will be contacted by email.

One of the most dynamic aspects of life Down Under is higher education in Australia. The current government has placed education as one of the top priority aspects of the economy to pump prime the business life in Australia. Even if the country has put in place one of the most stringent immigration processes in the world, the current demand for skilled workers for the economy makes Australia one of the most inviting countries in the world.

The education system in Australia is one of the industries that have a dearth of skilled experts. In fact, many higher education institutions have reached out to foreign skilled workers to fill the vacancies in many schools throughout the country. The high demand has even been highlighted in a post online succinctly describing the process as "this is where there is a specific opportunity for those with a teaching background and teaching experience to make a new life in Australia."

The Australian economy has been able to weather the storm of the worldwide recession mainly due to the conservative fiscal policies instituted by the Australian Federal Government. This has helped prop up the economy with little dislocation in the landscape. In fact, there has been an influx of immigrants to fill the in demand positions all throughout the economic landscape in the vast Australian terrain. Even Australians who have immigrated elsewhere have began to return home seeing the burgeoning economy and stable political structure that Australia has exhibited in the past decades.

As previously discussed, higher education in Australia provides much of the fresh influx of skilled workers for the Australian economy. The peculiarity of the Australian system though is the diversity of the skills available to be learned in the educational system. An individual student has an option of either enrolling in the many world class universities in the country or in the technical schools called TAFEs that are spread all throughout the continent. These vocational technical schools inculcate necessitated skills and expertise for individuals that make up a greater portion of the Australian workforce. The opening up of these educational opportunities to both local and foreign students has allowed the economy to continue on its rapid growth as there are new and skilled workers ready and available to fill the demand for labor in the businesses and industries throughout Australia.

In order to keep abreast with the galloping economy, teaching is one of the most in demand and high paying jobs in Australia. Even at the point of application for a visa, teachers are given much priority and their applications are fast tracked. In order for an individual to be gainfully employed in a higher education institution in Australia, an individual must have the education, experience and expertise to handle teaching in Australia. The forecast, as reported in a post that "Australia has become something of a magnet for teachers looking to move to a new land and so long as the demand for teachers remains high it is likely we will see the teaching profession remain on the skilled workers list for the foreseeable future."

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">The last few days in Australia has highlighted a strong surge in jobs as the economic recovery is on track. The stimulus package was intended to keep people working.The results were a surprise to the markets as there was an expected lag effect.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">The headlines on Friday 11 December:
- Jobs surge as recovery gathers pace (Australian Financial Review)
- CEOs warn on jobs squeeze (The Australian)
- Sting in jobs cheer (Business Daily Herald Sun)

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">The pertinent facts and figures are:

- Almost 100,000 jobs have been added to Australia's economy in the past three months
- A hefty 31,200 jobs were added in November
- A solid 30,800 full-time positions made up the bulk of new positions
- Victoria state added the most new jobs

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Unemployment
The unemployment rate dipped to 5.7% - the same as earlier in March this year, and down from 5.8% in October. This rate is a major contrast to the formal projection of 8.5%, which seemed high at the time. These figures are revised every six months and mid-year financial outlook will be released towards the end of the year.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Most economists expect a peak of a little over 6%. The Deputy Prime Minister stood by official forecasts that unemployment would reach 6.75% in the middle of next year. However, as it is now clear and undeniable that job losses have bottomed around July, these figures can only be political justification for the on-going spending by Government.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Implications
The fastest job growth in three years has significant implications for employers and employees - higher interest rates, skills shortages, pay demands, higher turnover, and more recruiting.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Higher interest rates - rates will continue rising and we have seen the Reserve Bank moving away from other major central banks lifting rates in October, with a rate rise only a week ago.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Skills shortages - some CEO's are already concerned that we will experience skills shortages in certain industries, particularly with increased demand from resource projects.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Pay demands - as many companies implemented pay freezes over the last year, new staff insisting on higher pay packages will put pressure on pay equity for existing staff. Companies will also need to consider some catch-up increases to avoid lagging the market. Unions have been reasonably conservative with their pay demands and will leverage any shortages of trades people to target higher pay increases.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Higher turnover - as the general confidence improves there will be an increase in staff turnover, as many employees are waiting for the new calendar year to start looking for new job opportunities

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">More recruiting - there has been strong anecdotal evidence from my recruiter network that there was a significant pick-up in the number of current assignments. The top end is still patchy but also starting to get some signs of life. We all look forward to a busy 2010.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Outlook
In summary, the economic recovery is gaining momentum and we appear to be sailing into 2010 with a better outlook as a year ago, which must be good news.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Many people around the world are trying to find the answer to the question: "How do I find a sponsored job in Australia?".

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Finding an Australian employer to sponsor you can be the most difficult part in emigrating to Australia. Most people search for a sponsor by applying to adverts on job search websites or in newspapers. Did you know that only an estimated 30% of all jobs are advertised here? There are theories that around 70% of all jobs in Australia are found in the 'hidden job market', meaning they are not advertised through the usual media channels.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">This article will give you a plan, using several steps, of how to tap into the hidden job market in Australia, and to help to make your dream of emigrating to Australia become a reality.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">1. Do Your Research.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">You will not often find Australian employers advertising that they are looking for someone to sponsor from overseas. The main reason being, if there is someone with the required skillset in Australia, it is easier for the Australian employer to offer a job to someone who is already established in Australia and can start work immediately - in comparison with employing a foreign national and going through the sponsorship process, the cost involved and the time delay for the sponsored individual to commence employment in Australia.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">You are also unlikely to find an Australian employer to sponsor you through the use of a recruitment agency,unless that recruitment agency specifically mentions in their job advertisement that the Australian employer is willing to sponsor the right candidate.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Search out companies in Australia whom you would like to work for. In general, larger companies in Australia are more likely to sponsor people from overseas than the smaller companies (due to budgets and business scope), however you should not strike out the smaller companies, as some are still willing to sponsor the right person. Wikipedia provides a list of Australian companies. You can also research the Yahoo Companies Directory to find companies in Australia to approach for sponsorship. The advantage of Yahoo is that they have categorised the companies for you to make it easier to find what kind of company you are looking for.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Contact these companies that interest you, sending them your resume / CV and enquire as to whether they have any opportunities available. Many of the larger companies tend to have a "Careers" section on their website, where they enable job seekers to search for their current vacancies, and also to submit their resume and cover letter into their database. This way, if they do not have a current vacancy that is suitable to your experience, they can call upon their database when a position does become available, and contact you.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">2. Global Companies

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Search out global companies who are based in both your home country and in Australia, and find out whether they offer transfer opportunities - quite often global companies do. Even though it might mean working in your home country for a period of time before an opportunity arises in Australia, it is worth it in the long run, if it means you can emigrate to Australia through that company. Global organisations also tend to look impressive on your CV / resume.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">3. Keep a Record

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Keep a list of the companies that interest you, and contact them all. I recommend phoning to speak to the manager of the department you would like to work in. If that fails, speak with the Human Resources department. Find out whether they are a company who are willing to sponsor someone from another country with the right skillset. Find out how often they destroy applications /resumes / CVs as well - most companies in Australia hang on to applications for 3-6 months, so to be safe, you should follow up your applications every three months. Keep a record of all of the dates you apply for jobs and speak with the company, for ease of keeping on top of your Australian job applications.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">4. Plan a Trip to Australia

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Once you have quite a healthy list of companies you would like to work for (no list is too long), and have applied and spoken to all of them, you should plan a trip to Australia where you can meet with each of the employers. If you are unable to set an appointment with every employer, make a plan to visit the company anyway, dropping off your updated resume, and try to get in front of either the department manager, or a Human Resources Manager.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Through making this vital connection with the Australian employers, you reach them on a personal level, and if they like you, they are more inclined to consider sponsorship than if they had not met you at all.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">5. Volunteer Work Experience

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">If you are able to, when you visit Australia, try to line up some volunteering work with some organisations in Australia. Companies that are most likely to accept volunteers are charitable and non-profit organisations. Approach them and set it up before arriving in Australia so you can build it into your plan for your trip to Australia. Also ensure that you are volunteering in the area of your profession. It will be to your advantage if you have experience working in Australia when you are looking for a sponsor, even if it is volunteer employment. "Non Profit Organisations Australia", has a comprehensive listing of non-profit organisations in Australia by state / region / city or town, and is a great place to search for possible companies to approach for volunteer work.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">6. Build your Networks

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Use social media, join industry groups, make friends in all the right places and put yourself out there. Use your networks and use other people's networks - especially if you already know people in Australia. The more you put yourself out there, the more success you will have in finding an Australian employer who is willing to sponsor you. If you think of it this way: most people have at least 100 people in their networks. Therefore if each of those 100 people also have 100 people in their networks, you potentially have access to a network of 1000 people! The more people you are connected to, the more likely you are to find someone who has connections in Australia.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Make everyone that you know, aware of your search for sponsored employment in Australia, and ask them to reach out to anyone that they know, who may be able to help.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">You should also try and be wise when building your networks and be selective with you you are connecting with. It would be wise, for example, to strive to make as many connections with Australians as possible, especially if they are working in the profession of your choice. Linked In is fantastic for professional networking and has the benefit of assisting employers to find you. Facebook, and other social networking sites can also be useful, particularly joining industry or Australia-focused groups.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">7. Study in Australia

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Are there any courses or further education in Australia in your industry you can enroll in? If you can get a student visa and go to Australia to study, you are normally entitled to a certain amount of hours per week that you can work. This is an awesome opportunity for you to network, get your foot in the door and gain valuable Australian experience and qualifications. Quite often, foreign nationals who study in Australia, are able to stay on in Australia afterward, by transferring their visa status and/or through finding sponsored employment in Australia. There is certainly an advantage for applying for jobs when you are already in Australia, as you are immediately available for job interviews. Again - it is making that personal connection with Australian employers.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">8. Successful Self-Marketing

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Prepare your marketing materials for success. Do your research to ensure that you will be competitive in the Australian job market - that means ensuring your resume / CV is in a successful Australian format, and ensuring you have a high-impact cover letter that will entice the Australian employer to review your resume / CV.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">If you are serious about increasing your chances of finding an employer sponsor in Australia, you should consider having your resume professionally rewritten specifically for the Australian job market. Contracting an Australian professional to rewrite your resume to a successful Australian CV template, means that you will be in the hands of a specialist who works on a daily basis with foreign nationals, assisting them to find employment in Australia.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">In Summary

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Remember: an estimated 70% of jobs in Australia are not advertised, and are found in the Australian 'hidden job market'. It is essential to your success that you access this enormous resource of job opportunities in Australia.

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">By following the steps above, and consistently working towards your goal on a long-term basis through thorough research, keeping track of your applications, utilising the hidden job market, building your networks, ensuring your marketing materials are of high quality and competitive in the Australian job market, planning a trip to Australia, considering volunteer work in Australia and/or furthering your studies in Australia; you are guaranteed to increase your likelihood of finding a sponsored job in Australia.
Thousands of health professionals come to Australia each year looking for a new start, sun, sand, and the surf. Some even master surfing - but more learn how to fall from a surfboard! The sheer danger of some of the parts of our country is tempered by the absolute beauty and impressiveness of the natural features and very unique animals of Australia.

In Australia, we are exceptionally outgoing, confident, and always happy. Our personality, and the tendency to light-heartedly make fun of others sometimes bewilders, or shocks international visitors.

This article is the start of a series relating to how to start working in Australia as a health professional, and what you can do to get here - and have a successful career.

I have helped thousands of health professionals find work in Australia, and my company Beat Medical focusses on employment for doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, psychologists, senior nurses, and health managers. This article relates specifically to doctors.

The focus of this article is about what types of jobs are available in Australia, and what type of working conditions you can generally expect.

About the Australian Health System

The health system in Australia is largely a government funded, public healthcare system. It is of a very high standard, but is supplemented in part by a private healthcare system (funded by private paying patients, and health insurance companies).

It is not mandatory to have health insurance in Australia, as all citizens, and permanent residents are covered by the Medicare (www.medicare.gov.au) system - which is a federally funded system available to everyone. Healthcare is administered by the individual states around Australia through Public Hospitals. Visitors Australia from the UK, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Malta, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, and Italy are entitled to a limited amount of free healthcare in Australia.

Many Australians choose to take out private health insurance to supplement what the public system provides. This usually enables an individual to have their choice of doctor, and to stay in a private facility.

Most employment as a doctor in Australia is in a public hospital. There are different terms used in each region, but essentially there are four levels of doctor.

Interns are undergoing a supervised training year.

Residents are fully registered doctors, working in a general rotational position in a hospital.

Registrars are taking part in a speciality training program (equivalent to a resident in the USA).

Consultants are qualified specialists.

You would most likely be considering a position in one of the last three categories.

Medical Registration in Australia

The Australian Medical Council (http://www.amc.org.au/index.php/img) oversees the entry of international medical graduates into the Australian system. They have a very comprehensive and informative website, which you should review for information on how to become registered in Australia.

The Competent Authority model is one of the most straightforward ways to become registered in Australia. If your primary medical training was undertaken any of these countries, you are generally not required to complete any examinations to start work in Australia:?

United States of America

United Kingdom

Canada

New Zealand

Ireland

The standard pathway requires that you complete a multiple choice, and sometimes a clinical examination before commencing work in an Australian state.

The specialist pathway is for doctors who are trained as a medical specialist in their home country. This pathway is also dependent on the relevant medical training college in Australia - as they will be the body responsible for assessing your qualifications and experience before recommending you to be registered in Australia.

As medical registration is a state based matter, the rules vary from state to state.

When you apply for a position in Australia, the recruitment company or hospital you are dealing with will generally assist you through the registration process.

Working Visas

Australia has very strict immigration policies, which are governed by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Depending on your country of origin, there are a number of visas that may be appropriate for you. The most common method of entry, though, is the 457 Temporary Business (Long Stay) Visa (http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/sbs/). This visa requires sponsorship from an employer, and quite a detailed process for entry. It is relatively straightforward, though, and most can be managed online.

Working conditions

In Australia, the general working hours a 38-40 hours per week (0800-1700). As you can imagine, however, the working hours for a doctor are significantly different from the norm.

It is quite variable, but you can expect to work an additional 20 hours or so per week in overtime (which is generally paid at a higher rate). Those working in shift-work (for example in Emergency or Intensive Care) will work four or five twelve hour shifts per week, as well as some overtime.

The pay is quite variable, as it is state-based. However, the salaries in Australia are quite significant in comparison to many other countries. They are generally considered appropriate in relation to the cost of living in Australia.

In broad terms, as a resident you can expect to earn a base (before overtime) salary of between $60-70k per annum. As a registrar, $75-90k per annum, and a consultant $150k + per annum. These figures are open to significant variation, and simply provide a guide.

In Australia, employers are legally required to contribute at least 9% of your salary towards a superannuation (retirement) fund. You have complete control over how this fund is managed. You may be able to claim all of this money back if you depart Australia. Otherwise, it cannot be accessed until you are retirement age.

Taxation in Australia is relatively high, as we have a very high level of social services funded by the government. Go to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website for more information. You would generally be considered resident for taxation purposes if you are here for an extended period.

How to find a position

You can find a position through many of the job websites such as www.seek.com.au,

www.careerone.com.au, or www.mycareer.com.au. You can also access the individual health department websites, which all have job search engines.

There are a number of recruitment agencies in Australia who can assist you with the process of finding a position, and dealing with medical registration, working visas, relocation, and contract negotiation. Not all companies are the same, or offer the same level of service and quality. You should never pay a recruitment company in Australia (they should charge the employer).
Next time:

How to write a stand out resume (the Australian way!). Yes, there is an Australian way to write a resume (C.V). It may mean the difference between an interview - or no interview.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Recent figures released by the Australian government have revealed that the Australian job market is showing some real endurance during these testing times.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Whilst it was expected that the unemployment rate would increase, at least marginally, economists were shocked to find that nothing has changed, despite the recession. This is good news for the Australian labour market as it means job cuts are not diminishing employment opportunities within the country. Now sitting at a steady 5.8 %, the unemployment rate is a good indication of a solid economy capable of maintaining the labour market.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This positive result has been attributed to a multitude of factors, but the most noted contributor is the Australian government’s commitment to stimulus spending in order to maintain the unemployment rate. It also indicates responsibility and commitment on behalf of employers, who are fighting to keep their staff working versus redundancy and unemployment.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This is great news for anyone currently employed or looking to find a job in Australia. Even better still are the reports regarding the financial services sector. Whilst the financial industry is in pretty bad shape, the world over, it has been reported that the financial services recruitment industry in Australia has been maintaining some sort of stability, despite the recession. Furthermore, the IFA reported that salaries across the senior financial areas have remained static over 2009, a huge rarity given the amount of salary cutting that is taking place worldwide.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">All in all it seems Australia is definitely doing something right during this downturn, and I suppose you could put it this way… If I were job hunting right now, I’d want to be job hunting in Australia!
South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory may offer nominations. Nominations are based on occupational skills that are in shortage for the particular area.

These territories and states have websites that offer a list of skills in shortage. If you find that your particular skill is a good fit for open positions, they you may contact the State or Territory government. These governments also have a skill matching database.

It is important to note though that nomination from a territory or state does not automatically mean that your visa will be granted. You still need to apply and get and approval from the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship to get your visa for Australia. Your skilled visa may be granted once all the requirements are met.
There are two major types of employee-sponsored visas: temporary and permanent. This article discusses the three ways to attain a permanent visa for skilled labourers.

Unlike its temporary counterpart, the permanent visa offers holders a number of benefits. Permanent visa holders and their dependents may study in an Australian school or university, receive subsidized healthcare and sponsor people for permanent residence. After meeting eligibility criteria, the permanent visa holder can also become an Australian citizen. Visa holders can also access certain social security payments upon completion of the waiting period.

1. Employee Nomination Scheme – Subclass 121/856 allows Australian employers to sponsor foreign nationals for a permanent visa to work in Australia. It works for both overseas works and those who are skilled temporary residents. One qualification for this visa type is that it requires the employee to be highly skilled.

2. Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme – Subclass 119/857 lets employers from regional Australia sponsor skilled workers for positions that they are unable to fill from the local labour market.

3. Labour Agreements – Subclass 120 and 855, this formal agreement that allows companies to recruit a number of overseas skilled workers. There are several situations where this type of arrangement can be beneficial to the employer.

The amount of time the sponsored employee must render services to the sponsoring employer varies according to the type of visa. While permanent visas may take some time to prepare and approve, it does offer considerable benefits that allow a person holding such to truly enjoy work in Australia.
Unemployment rates have started increasing and there are other signs of economic downturns in major economies of the world. International Labor Organization predicted that at least 20 million jobs was lost by the middle of 2009 bringing world unemployment level at above many million for the first time. Due to the survey report that the number of unemployed people may increase by more than 1 million in middle of 2009 if the recession intensifies. Advanced economies like USA, Canada, Brazil, China, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Taiwan, Gulf, South Africa, Spain, Germany, France, UK, Sweden, Norway, Russia and Australia have all started feeling the effects of the recession. Employment in Australia rose to its highest level in nearly four years in 2009, showing the global downturn continues to bite despite big interest rate cuts and the government pumping billions of dollars into the economy. Now Economists expected the jobless rate was raised to 5 percent. Now start your job search early, preferably before arrival. Foreigners looking to score a job search Australia in Australia typically stick with what they know, or they go the opposite route and try to do something completely different from their skill set. Figure out for yourself how committed you want to be to your job.

If your primary purpose in working in Australia is to travel around the country, then go with something that will provide you with a flexible schedule. High levels of stability, commitment and nurturance are especially important in this role. Although Australia is not yet officially in a recession, figures released in March 09 indicate that it could be headed that way. Australia economy shrank 0.5 percent in the last quarter of 2008, the economy first contraction in eight years. Having said this, jobs for skilled labor are ever increasing in Australia. Australian jobs are open to people belonging to any field of expertise including accounting & finance, arts, design and media, administration, computer software and hardware, telecommunication, customer service, engineering and medicine, travel, tourism and transportation, human resource management, legal and counsel, marketing and sales.

The list identifies occupation sectors in which a increasing is identified in the market today. The current list shows a increasing in child care coordinators, engineering managers, accountants, anesthetists, architects, chemical engineers, civil engineers, computer professionals, dental specialists, dermatologists, electrical and electronics engineers, emergency medical specialists, external auditors, general medical practitioners, hospital pharmacists, mechanical engineers, radiographers, mining engineers, obstetricians, gynecologists, occupational therapists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, pathologists, petroleum engineers, physiotherapists, podiatrists, psychiatrists, quantity surveyors, radiologists, registered nurses and midwifes, retail pharmacists, specialists physicians, speech pathologists, surgeons, chefs, and many more occupations. It's also important that people wanting to enter the industry have relevant experience in the area they want to enter in the Australia Mining industry. The market is getting very competitive with some companies getting over 500 applicants or more for one position. Especially with the amount of media that the mining industry is receiving on current affair programs in Australia and New Zealand regarding all the money to be made in the industry. It's making it a lot harder finding position, especially unskilled mining jobs and also finding companies that will take on people with no previous mining experience. It's not as easy as it used to be in entering the mines. More work is being mechanically assisted therefore skilled people are required rather than the old days in the industry when a lot of unskilled positions were available.

Also certain skills and trades are in more demand than others. Mothers and Fathers reading this should take some notes and direct your kid in the right directions when they are planning to leave school and enter the work force or university study. If your kid is not interested in university study and wants to leave school get them into a training scheme with a company that will give them a trade after a few years that will in return earn them over 100,000 a year and only working two thirds of the year in the mining industry in Australia. Also university study can be planned and the end result will be more rewarding. Students with a Mining Engineering Degree's are getting snapped up quicker than they are being graduated. There is an 18% vacancy rate in this area and top students are getting sign on agreements of up to 10,000 dollars like sporting super stars with some of the large mining companies in Australia as well as a 100,000 starting off salary.

Getting back to relevant experience; Mining companies want to hire people that have done the particular job back in the cities and are passionate about their job. Its costs a lot hiring a person, and putting the person through the inductions fully paid and then ongoing training, the last thing they want is the person to quit their job after a few weeks.

A lot of people tell me they have an HR and want to drive trucks? But they don't have any experience driving trucks in the city let alone on a mine site. Agencies won't even look at your application if you don't have mining experience of 2-3 years. A lot of their positions are fly in fly out and are filling a vacancy that is important for production to run properly. If production is not running efficiently, it's going to costs the company money. A lot of the big companies don't have time to train people on the job site any more. This is the same with people wanting to enter the industry as a cleaner on a mining camp. The hiring companies want people are experience in this field as its costs them a lot to train people and put them through inductions. If people have several years experience in this field, it shows the company they are passionate about this job as they want people that are going to stay with them for a long time and are not just using a cleaning job in a mining camp to gain a dump truck job. This is a big NO for the hiring cleaning companies in the mining industry and they have tough interview procedures to stop people entering the cleaning industry with the intention of fining a dump truck job.

The way the mines are going you want 2 -3 years experience in a field in your civilian career. If you want a particular job in the mines its best to start now where you live and get some experience. Even if it means driving buses, it's still related to driving trucks. Bus drivers make good dump truck drivers as they have to be safety conscious during the day which skill is wanted for dump truck drivers to have. This is the same for people that tell me they have driven a digger a few times in the past and planned to get a job driving a digger on a mine site. Hope you have good patience as if this is the only experience you have your going to be waiting for a while. Those diggers on the mine sites are a lot bigger 150 - 700 tonnes. These positions driving dump trucks and diggers are paid well and the employees climbing the company ladder will be getting these positions before you.

It may be easier to find a job with a small sub contractor company that has work on a mine site. They may not pay as much as the big mining companies but they are more likely to hire a person in your situation and this way you get that valuable mining experience.

A lot of the time is who you know in the mining industry, if you met the right people and make a good connection with them. It's easy to find a job any field you like.

There are three job fields in the mining industry in Australia:

University educated mining jobs. Geologists, mine managers etc. Jobs that require university study as important part of the position.

Skilled Worked. Mechanics, wielders, Boiler makers, Drillers, Often requiring a trade or specific training.

Ticket required Jobs. Loader driving jobs, Truck driving, Road trains and dump trucks. Jobs often requiring tickets to show you're skilled in driving particular machinery or vehicles.

It sometimes turns into a cache 22 situation. The companies only want to hire experience people but how do you get that experience if they don't take new comers to the industry on. Answer; 1) Use your friends if you have any that are working in the mines. 2) Some companies run programs in participation with training institutions in the cities where if selected after a 1hour interview you can do one of there courses and then they help you get a job. These organizations can charge up to 4000 dollars and some applicants have waited 4 months for a position. This is very common for the people entering the industry wanting to drive dump trucks. 3) The last option is to take up another position in the mines which provides easy and quick access to get that "mining experience" that companies want. It may not be a position that you want to do for the rest of your life, but it's a position that pays wells and will open the world to the lucrative mining industry.

It can be tough finding out want positions that are the easiest ways to enter the mining industry in Western Australia. They are not well published and it's up to who you know in the mining industry that can fill you with information regarding positions that are a good way to get into the industry.
Australia isn't a country you would typically associate with leading edge engineering skills and technical innovation. Australia, however, is full of surprises and in fact boasts many firsts. These include the mechanical refrigerator, the black-box-flight recorder, the bionic ear (cochlear implant), the pace maker, the electric drill, and the combine harvester. In fact Australia's output of inventive genius is far beyond what you would expect - given that the population size barely exceeds 20 million people (source: Australian Bureau of Statistics).

The demand for engineers
As a place to work, Australia must be amongst the most exciting for an engineer - no matter the discipline. The booming economy has a strong technology focus, and vast amounts are invested in research and development. However, there is a shortage of engineers which limits what firms are able to do. According to the engineering body "Engineers Australia" the current vacancy rate is estimated at 20%. The demand for engineers applies to a wide range of engineering disciplines including: Mining engineers, electrical engineers, civil engineers, chemical engineers and mechanical engineers. These are on the "Migration Occupations in Demand List" (MODL) and are therefore amongst the most sought after professions in Australia.

High levels of remuneration
Engineering salaries are very competitive. For instance, entry level mining engineers earn annual salaries ranging from A$95,000 to A$105,000, while management level engineers' earnings range from approximately A$175,000 to A$210,000.

The door is wide open
Australia utilises a points system to determine whether a visa is issued. Given the shortages, engineers are viewed in a favourable light when applying for a visa. Engineers holding qualifications of the type listed on the MODL list, earn between 15 to 20 points (depending on whether or not the applicant has a job offer).

A fairly new Visa, labelled the 457 Visa is one of the best options for obtaining temporary residence in Australia. The visa is sponsored in part by your employer. The employer covers your return trip costs as well as your medical expenses. The 457 Visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to four years. In addition your spouse, partner and/or children may accompany you on this Visa. After 24 months you are permitted to apply for citizenship should you so desire.

The 457 Visa affords you most of the rights (and duties) of an ordinary Australian citizen, including access to an excellent healthcare system. Rights which do not apply include the right to vote and jury duty.

At present Australia is a land of opportunity for those with the right skills, an opportunity which should not be missed! Australia offers the ideal lifestyle. A pleasant climate, wide-open spaces, and beautiful coastlines enhance life quality. Those who enjoy the outdoors are sure to feel right at home. The infrastructure is first class, crime rates are low and the education system is amongst the best in the world.

The pursuit for happiness and joy is a long and winding road. But what exactly is joy? Joy is an abstract term that can be referred to an achievement in career, marriage, or simply being contented with what life has to offer. It strikes curiosity why people despite having the comforts of their homes, leave and take another route. Joy is not absolute then. When something else fails, it looses its scent and fades away.

Many people working overseas have responded that a better opportunity to expand career paths outside the country of origin is like having a taste of euphoria. It is similar to achieving joie de vivre. For instance working in Australia; the country has excellent career opportunities and a lifestyle to be looked forward to. These are just few of the thousand good reasons why a remarkable number works overseas in Australia.

Taking a closer look, aside from the career opportunities, the country has a great weather. Excellent pay rate, low cost of living, laid back Aussie attitude, and good working conditions. To wit, it comes in a beautifully wrapped item that brings joy and delight.

Career Development
Every employee dreams advancement in their careers. One step forward means two claps of achievement. Who would not want to go up the ladder?
Most Australian companies support staffs to develop their personal and professional career. It is their primordial goal to give each employee a fair square chance to walk and climb up. They invest in their staffs like sending them to schools and trainings essential to achieve outcomes of quality.
A well learned individual becomes an asset to the companies and in turn bring in positive results.

Working Conditions
While advancement is essential for professional and personal progress, a conducive and commendable working condition is likewise of the same importance.
Working in Australia gets the benefit of a flex working time. They give merit to those who work extra effort to bring changes. Aside from the filthy competitive salaries and benefits, they enjoy the luxury of yummy fringe benefits .
Employees are given performance achievement for the renowned and exemplary contributions and performance. Similarly, they give credit to conduct.

Work life balance
Acknowledging the employees contribution in the industry, they are entitled to leaves and leave purchase.
Employees who are to have maternity, sick and vacation leaves have the benefit to secure and enjoy it. This is in consonance to the universal maxim that "man cannot work more than what he could bear, working like a cow until the dawn casts away."
Every employee enjoy the benefit of having their child or their aged parents left in care. Since families are the driving force for an employee to work, a care on their children and aged parents is substantial.
Part time employees are also welcome to participate in the working force.

Safety and Health
A discrimination free working place makes working worthwhile. Every employee is taken and acted upon equally. No one is above the other. It is a total simplification of the egalitarian thinking which the country proudly practices.
People with disabilities are given reasonable adjustments to engage in the profession. Health and safety of employees are of importance.

Competitive Salaries
The salary of every employee is in proportion to their work loads. It is over and above the standard scale. This package is one reason why many seeks to land in the Australian shores.

The Requirement
Before one could land up to a dream job in Australia, he has to secure a working visa at the Australian immigration. The visa for Australia entitles the holder a key to the Australian shores while an Australian work visa gives him the privilege to enjoy the benefit of working.

Work in Australia is very competitive. The awaiting opportunity for an employee to soar higher is positive to accomplish.

This conclusively implies that employees are given high regard in the industry. The benefits of working in Australia can make someone achieve his joie de vivre, "the joy of living.' Published by: regmac

Currently, Australia is in need of skilled tradesmen and as a result there are opportunities galore. Perhaps you've acquired the skills but you don't have the necessary official qualification papers to qualify for <a au_live.php="" href="https://<a%20href=/" http:="" target="_blank" www.immigrationunit.com="">www.immigrationunit.com/au_live.php" Australian Immigration ?

No worries, there is a solution - are you willing to do what it takes?

Currently, tradespersons earn much more than graduates. This is due to the high demand for trade skills.

The opportunity to study a trade in Australia ensures an opportunity to <a au_live.php="" href="https://<a%20href=/" http:="" target="_blank" www.immigrationunit.com="">www.immigrationunit.com/au_live.php" migrate to Australia successfully. Over 30 percent of TAFE (Technical and Further Education) students in Australia already hold bachelor degrees but are training for trade skills to gain lucrative jobs.

How can you benefit?

The bottom line is – Australia’s economy is booming. Fortunately for you, the growth is restricted due to shortages of skilled people across many of the trade industries. In fact, there are huge infrastructure developments that are on hold because of this great shortage of skills.

Currently, tradespersons are earning much more than graduates. This is due to the high demand for trade skills.

Study in Australia? The study options avaliable are open to international students. This will allow these students to gain skills to qualify in a number of occupations that are in demand. If you already hold a degree you're able to gain admission to two year post graduate courses to gain recognition as accountants, teachers, nurses and IT Specialists. If you've attained a HND (Higher National Diploma) you're able to gain credit into a Bachelor degree. You can then qualify in a wide range of occupations. You'll also enhance your chances of gaining skilled migration.

If you don’t have qualifications

You can train as a cook, hairdresser, bricklayer, automotive mechanic, cabinet maker or backer (there are more trades that you can train for). Of course, those in the above mentioned categories can also train for these trades.

How to go about it...

Generally, Australia aim to attract young people that have proficient English skills and are qualified in skilled occupations. Preferably, these applicants want to settle in regional areas. An Eligibility test will determine the above factors. The eligibility points allocate points to applicants based on age, skill, English language ability, work experience and a few other factors.

For skilled Migration you'll need 120 points.

How are points gained?

If you study specific programmes in Australia for at least 2 years will allow you to gain points for;

Skilled Occupations – amounts to 40, 50 or 60 points

If you study in Australia for two years you can gain 5 points

If you studied in a regional area in Australia you are given a bonus of 5 points

If you graduate with qualifications included on the Migration Occupation In Demand List (MODL), you may attract an additional 15 points.

The Age Requirement

Persons under 30 years of age with good English skills and qualified in a 60 point occupation (through 2 years of study in a regional area in Australia) will gain 120 points which is the current target.

Various occupations are shown on the Skilled Occuptations List (SOL)

Sought-after Trades Skills

Which skills are in demand?
Nurses, Accountants, Cooks, Hairdressers, Bricklayers are on the MDOL.

The MODL is reviewed at least every 6 months. This is done in line with the current workforce demands at the time. For example, If you proceed to do cookery courses , ensure that when by the time you're expected to complete the course, your newly attained skill will still feature on the MODL. Remember, not all courses will qualify you for a migration outcome. In order to be granted points, you'll need to meet the criteria that are set down by the relevant assessing body. Particularly for the occupation you're studying for as shown on the SOL.

Degree or Postgraduate qualification that is on the assessing body’s accredited list. Examples; accountants or IT Specialists.

Immigration can be the answer to curbing Australian state, Victoria's rise in housing prices because of labour shortages in commercial and residential

The Master Builders Association of Victoria (MBA) believes that to keep pace with the industry's growth, the state needs 40,000 more skilled workers within the next five years.

Because of an acute lack of skilled workers, Victoria's construction activity is being threatened, and, according to a survey of commercial builders by the peak body, recruiting a skilled workforce was the biggest issue preventing the sector from reaching its potential.

Executive MBA director Brian Welch said that this survey highlighted the need for Victoria not only to retain its skilled professionals but also to attract new workers.

Other key findings of the survey showed that 46% of those polled said that it was very difficult to recruit highly skilled workers such as site and project managers. Also, more than half said the greatest difficulty was found in recruiting shop draftsmen.

Mr Welch also said that things are about to worsen if Immigration Australia can't help: "With an ageing workforce and many of our senior building professionals close to retirement age, the situation is expected to worsen".

The problem, Welch explained, was that forcing up the costs for builders, would feed into property prices for consumers.

He warned that the fewer trade contractors there are to do work; the higher house prices will rise as shortages become imminent. Also, he added that we are under-building as it stands and there are a lot of people over the next five years who will retire from the building industry.

Over the past few years, housing affordability in Australia has worsened, with home owners and renters spending more of their income on mortgage or rent payments. Hopefully, Immigration Australia can bring in more skilled workers from overseas to remedy this problem.

Mr Welch said to address the skills shortage, the State Government should introduce several measures, including retraining skilled workers at retirement age so their skills and experience can be kept as 'registered trainers'.
If you wish to seek jobs in Au, from abroad, you will need to take care to read about an understand Australian Immigration policy. There is a clear quota and the number of those wishing to enter is far greater than the allowed influx.

However, if you seek jobs Au from within the country you will be looking for employment in your existing homeland and this will not be likely to apply.

Despite the enormous size and low population of Australia by international norms, the nations is still largely an urban nation. The jobs available in Australia and the mix of jobs is therefore similar to all other developed nations.

If you do seek jobs au, but in the outback, then the job mix available is quite different. The population is so low that the number of “jobs in the empty Australia regions” is also quite small.

Jobs will as they do all around the world, reflect the main economic activity within the area, so there are many and widely dispersed jobs in cattle ranching, and farming in the areas wet enough to support agriculture. For those that enjoy the wild and tough life of cattle, and not seeing anyone for days on end, they will find employment incomparable in the world. Search on and we wish you every success.

The other big employer of the empty Australian outback are those uniquely seek jobs au available for miners, and engineers, for all those who seek adventure and wealth in the minerals industry. Some of the mines are as remote as can be found anywhere in the world. Expect to get to know your fellow employees very well as there will be little scope for much other socializing!

If you seek jobs au though you will find that pay is usually good and the employers are reasonable to work for. Australia has a national minimum wage rule as well, so you will be protected from a level of exploitation.

If you seek jobs in au in the theater the scene is active and growing, but small. For example, Australia\'s Amanda Stewart has been invited to curate an international sound-poetry program this year, following her runaway success at last year\'s "Worlds of Sound".

Australia’s theatre scene is also scattered across a wide terrain, mirroring the size and distribution of its population. A shift in any of the major features of this landscape has the potential to change the local and national ecology of performance and, by extension, the shape and scope of Australia’s presence on the international stage. However, for those that do seek a short time Australian drama job and traveling experience would find this possible seek obs au opportunity as ideal to get to see the country.

The dance scene for job seekers (seek jobs au) in Australian work is increasingly registering at major international dance screen events. With very few independent dance artists being presented overseas, film or video work is a way of having a presence on the international scene. Australian work is currently under way to develop indicators that include such information, but the current study preceded this. Thirdly, the level of access might have been influenced by the total amount of funding available to the project.
Cape Town - South Africa-born Allan Moss, who heads up Macquarie Bank - is now Australia's highest paid CEO, having earned more than A$33m (R195m) in 2007. Moss is widely credited with having turned Macquarie Bank from a minor player into an international powerhouse (www.moneyweek.com).

Such is the respect Moss has accrued over the years that he has acquired the title "Sage of Sydney", some labeling him an Australian Warren Buffet.

He is known for his humility and "bumbling professor" image, but underneath all this is a business genius who has managed to outwit many an international competitor (www.theage.com.au).

Another success story is South African born Gail Kelly, who has now become the most highly paid businesswomen in Australia and is ranked by Fortune magazine as one of the top 50 most powerful women in the world. She is also the first woman to head a top-ten listed Australian company.

Kelly immigrated to Australia in 1997 to join the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and worked her way through the ranks to the point where she will be taking over as CEO of Westpac Bank in February next year.

According to Oz-LifeStyle.com agency head, Mike Stowe, individuals such as Allan Moss and Gail Kelly represent the pinnacle of South African immigrant achievements, but they are not alone.

"In fact, the average 457 Visa skilled migrant's salary of A$70 000 (R413 000) indicates that the typical South African immigrant is likely to be an above average performer when it comes to earnings. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the average Australian salary is A$57 000."

Faced with growing skills shortages - combined with an unemployment rate of approximately four percent - Australian businesses have increasingly sought qualified South Africans. Australia's robust economy, high GDP growth and low inflation and public debt, have meant that there are simply not enough Australians to fill job vacancies.

"South Africans are sought after by Australian firms because they possess a high standard of education along with a good work ethic, proficiency in English, and excellent industry or corporate training.

"Australian employees also know that South Africans adapt well to the Ozzie lifestyle and culture. Our warm climate, geographic beauty and diversity, suburbs, shopping centres, world class education and medical standards - are very similar." says Stowe.

Employment agencies throughout Australia offer countless job opportunities for South Africans, especially in "priority" fields.

"These 'priority' jobs are identified in Australia's immigration program. At present, there is an urgent need for people in IT (project and design programmers), retail (management and supervisors), the medical field, mining (engineers and surveyors), defence, industry (abattoir supervisors and workers, project and electrical engineers) and all trades." says Stowe.

The Australian Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC), announced earlier this year that people with trade skills were needed most, but also listed chartered accountants, medical professionals, welders and hairdressers as other skills that were in short supply.

The revamped "457 Visa", sponsored in part by prospective employers (who are responsible for return trip costs and medical expenses), allows employees and their families to stay in Australia on a temporary basis for four years. Permanent residence may be applied for after two years.
